Name: Stephanie Polihronas on Oct 13, 2007Comments: As a resident of Union Street, I completely object to the proposed development. I fail to see the need - I have lived here for 2.5 years and have never had difficulty accessing the plentiful supply of supermarkets and grocers in the local area (Broadway, Marrickville Metro, Rosebery IGA, local Erskineville shops, Newtown Foodworks and Franklins - shall I continue) If the council approves this they are clearly not supporting the village atmosphere we have all moved to the area to enjoy.Flag

Name: Anonymous on Oct 13, 2007Comments: I am a local resident and strongly oppose plans for yet another supermarket in an area already well served in this regard. Traffic congestion and parking difficulties are already extremely problematic. The village atmosphere would be seriously threatened by another major commercial devlopment not sensitively attuned to the local residential environment. I am not opposed to development of the 'HIVE' site per se. I support development in consultation with local residents and in accord with broader strategic objectives of achieving a 'City of Villages' living space.Flag

Name: Katie Hage on Oct 13, 2007Comments: firstly there is no benefit to the local residents that either coles or woolworths will make - their products and practices are questionable and those that want to support these biggies can do so within the area. the site is RIDICULOUS to contemplate a supermarket. Erskineville Rd is narrow and congested at the best of times with minimal parking in the village as it is - guaranteed this will become worse if we get a supermarket in the area as well. the streets in this area are not adequate to support the delivery vehicles coles and woolworths traditionally use. the out of hours deliveries in this type of business will be destructive to all residents between south dowling street and king street as the trucks come in from the outer west to service the stores. I could go on ad infinitum, however the supermarket chains are not what this community (nor australia at large for that matter) needs.Flag

Name: Anonymous on Oct 14, 2007Comments: There are supermarkets in Waterloo, Newtown, Broadway and Marrickville. We do not need another one especially when it will add to the traffic congestion, noise pollution, and pedestrian danger. Eskineville Village is exactly that. It's what sells real estate and why the residents are so reluctant to leave. Leave our village alone. Just go and look at the site, it is totally unsuitable for such a development especially a supermarket. It will fatally ruin our fun, friendly oasis. The City of Sydney is supposed to be preserving and promoting the 'city of villages' - please help us protect ours.Flag

Name: Mark Boyd on Oct 14, 2007Comments: This proposal is inconsistent with the proposed pan for Erskinevuille (which is still under active development) and is unnecessary given the many supermarkets close to Erskineville. It will detract from the amenity of the Erskineville Road shopping strip. The site could be far better used. It is completely unacceptable that virtually no community consultation has taken place, nor that a proper, transparent impact study has not been called for. Please Lord Mayor - INTERVENE NOW.Flag
