The petition
Political analysts often say that the lesser known presidential candidates must have a breakthrough moment to connect with voters and rise to the upper tier. Unfortunately this has been made more difficult in the current political season because those who have been administering the 2008 primary debates, favor certain candidates by giving them almost twice the opportunities to speak. This has been patently unfair to the candidates and to the American people, who aren't being given the tools to make an informed choice.
It is our duty as Americans to select our next President and to decide who will represent our respective parties in the November race. It is not the place of a television network, political party or organizing committee to limit our choice or the public's access to viable candidates.
If a candidate is worthy of participating in a debate, their ideas are worthy of being heard.
We, the undersigned, call upon the sponsors, networks, political parties and organizing committees to stop this practice and to allow all candidates on the stage, equal time and a chance to answer every question. We realize that this may limit the number of questions or extend the time required for debate, but considering the importance of the office, the qualifications of those on the stage and our need to make an informed decision, we believe that the American people deserve no less.
