Equal opportunities in LoL Esports
Anyone who has watched both the mens and womens leagues of LoL Esports can clearly see the difference in budget and effort.
Riot games should put at least enough effort into womens cups (even ones not organised directly by Riot) to make them feel equal to the mens or - preferrably - make opportunities equal and allow women to take part in the main tournaments. The players in these cups are skilled, there is no reason why they should not be allowed into main tournaments. Sexism and discrimination is a crime in many countries, this should not be accepted from other players and teams by not allowing women into their teams or discriminating against them. Riot Games should be ready and willing to sanction both teams and players for this kind of behaviour (as has been shown in some studies).
LGC (Rising) will hopefully be a good start, but unlike in other more physical sports, there is no possible argument for arbitrarially exclusion of demographics.
Riot Games should:
- Make main tournaments accessible for all genders. If one tournament is not possible make three; one female, one male and one more prestigious combined (most likely with non-binary genders able to choose)
- Approporiately sanction players, coaches, teams and institutions discriminating unfairly against women.
- Invest equally into both genders for Esports, creating equal opportunities for everyone, not just men.
