Name: Steven Cole on Jun 20, 2006Comments: Hi First of all please note that I do not intend to offend anyone by this it is mealy my point of view on this subject. I have been using Microsofts Media Center Edition. This software needs an EPG without it you lose 90% of the functionality. You can't schedule TV shows to record "at the click of a button as MS advertises. I have to resort to using the paper based TV page when this should no longer be necessary. This causes my Media Center to lay to waste as it has no benefits over my normal TV. Under Trade Practices law it clearly states that you are not allowed to misuse your market power to eliminate or damage a potential competitor. Are you trying to eliminate competitors to the Foxtel IQ service The world has changed there needs to be a free EPG for Australia to progress, people will not purchase Media Centers and PVRs when they do not offer any extra functionality over their existing hardware. I know I wont.Flag

The only supposed legal option is now under threat from ninemsn legal action and that leaves only illegal site scraping as an option. Surely the cost of providing this service is miniscule in the light of potential advertising revenue.Flag

As in many other countries - Networks should be forced to provide EPG's by law - as their current actions can only be seen as Anti Competitive to other PVR hardware and software manufacturers (and related 3rd party services).Flag

Name: Andre Rencontre on Jun 20, 2006Comments: I know Australia follows the world in most things, but surely the time has come for us to follow the lead (again) of our european cousins. I've just moved back from London and the lack of an EPG in Australia is ridiculous. I was reading about concerns of increased piracy. What hogwash, if i wanted to illegally distribute content how would an EPG help me I am more than capable of doing it already - though i fail to understand who else in this world would actually want to view Australian content like Blue Heelers....but i digress.Flag

Name: Jeff on Jun 20, 2006Comments: As a result of not making EPG easily available so that I can record programs. This will cause me to watch a lot less TV, from about 4hr a day to less then 1. Since I am 26 and this age group is already swaying away from TV. The feeling that I get is that if EPG is not made accessible to this age group this marketing demographic can just be dismissed from the broadcasting figures. In closing, Why watch something I dont really wont to when I can just go to my PC a waste time there with more enjoyment.Flag

Name: Matthew Tyers on Jun 20, 2006Comments: An EPG would increase the take up of digital TV in Australia. An EPG would NOT increase piracy as any pirate can set a timer without an EPG. Secondly, no pirate would want to pirate a television program from FTA as it would contain watermarks, pop up banners and ad breaks (or obvious cuts where ads were removed).Flag

Name: Troy Kucks on Jun 20, 2006Comments: It is about time that in this so called "information age" that television stations and the government realise that we are currently in the 21st century and not back in the 20th anymore. Programming Guide data is the same whether it is transmitted electronically or printed in the daily / weekly newspaper for free everyone should have access to it no matter which form they require it in and not in just the methods in which it is currently supplied for free (i.e. print media)Flag
