I have two sons who made a mistake when they were barely 17 years old. They went joy riding one night and dared each other to take things from people's yards and porches. I do not condone any of this behavior at all. They were charged with burglary, receiving stolen property, theft of a car, on and on. They were sentenced to 7 years. They were put on probation for 5 years. My boys are twins and were premature. They do not think like others their age-they are now 25. They are just now starting to think like someone who is about 18. They are reckless and impulsive. Needless to say they did not do well on probation. Now they have done time in prison in shock and substance abuse treatment and this therapy and that therapy. 8 years later, they still have 5 years parole. They are not criminals. There is no way they will EVER get out of this system. They can't. No matter how "good" they try to be, no one can be perfectly sinless and 100% trouble free. They have done more than enough time for what they did. They don't deserve to have their whole lives ruined because they did a stupid thing when they were 17. It's not fair or just. It's cruel and it's wrong. Let them be free! Expunge their record so they can get a job and have a life. Right now they can't do either and haven't been able to for the last 8 years. Let them be free! Please join me in petitioning the state of Missouri to change their laws. Offenses like theirs don't deserve such severe punishment. They are non violent, first time offenders who weren't even mature enough to make a rational adult decision. Please sign my petition to let them be free!
