Hello. My name is Jason. I am, or I was, a True Believer. For the uninitiated that's the affectionate name for Marvel comics' fans. However, with the company's pro-gay stance my respect for them has faltered. I realize that it has become a taboo subject with many people supporting this community, but what about those of who don't? Shouldn't our opinion matter? Well, apparently with the current Marvel regime it doesn't.

I wasn't pleased with Marvel comics pro-gay stance but I tolerated it for the sake of fairness to everyone. Unfortunately, Marvel has become way too aggressive with their pro-gay support. It's not enough for them to have a gay cowboy character or feature a gay wedding event between North Star an X-Man character and his partner.

Now the company is taking a characters that have previously been established as heterosexual and making them gay. A recent example of this is with Iceman, a character that has existed for 50 plus years and was part of Stan Lee's original X-Men. As seen in the movies this character had a love triangle with two female characters, Rogue and Kitty Pryde. His adult comic counterpart has had several established girlfriends. Yet, the writer, Brian Bendis, or his editors has felt compelled to make his younger self gay in the All-New X-Men comic. This is inconsistent of not only this character's history but reeks of favoritism towards a specific community with no regard for those of us who disagree.

I believe it is time for we, the readers, to speak out. This isn't just a fictional universe but a much cherished memory of both my childhood and I'm sure other readers as well. I grew up with Spider-Man and his Amazing Friends, Iceman and Firestar. And I remember a time when sexual orientations weren't part of comics. It felt great back when you could pick up a comic and enjoy a place of idealism, heroism, action and adventure. Back then the issues discussed were worth speaking of too a young impressionable generation. But now with the current state of Marvel comics, I can't say this.

So, the point of this petition is not just to voice our opinion on Marvel's aggressive pro-gay behavior but to appeal to the company to be more thoughtful of its other readership. With Marvel's popularity in the movie theaters and television these days they need to start acting more responsible. If you want to want to speak on issues, let them be ones like homelessness, unemployment, hungry families in America and abroad, heroes helping places stricken by ebola breakouts or natural disasters, or even terrorism. These seem more in line with the Marvel that I grew up with.

If Marvel is truly a company for families and True Believers then prove it. Will any of please join me in protesting Marvel's pro-gay agenda and advocate for them to stop forcing this upon us. We might not be able to reverse their poor decision to make a heterosexual gay but we can do something for future characters. We have a voice too and it's time for it to be heard. Marvel Comics has long been known as the House of Ideas, not a House of Ill-repute as they are currently treating it. Lend me your support and I know we can preserve Stan Lee's legacy and make this a company we can all be proud of again. Thank you.
