By not creating an inclusive bully free environment, you are sending a message that hate and intolerance are acceptable and that all students are not equal or safe in the Wilmington City School District.
Code# 5517.01--BULLYING AND OTHER FORM OF AGGRESSIVE BEHAVIOR it states and I quote "Harassment, intimidation, or bullying toward a student, whether by other students, staff, or third parties is strictly prohibited and will not be tolerated. This prohibition includes aggressive behavior, physical, verbal, and psychological abuse. The Board of Education will not tolerate any gestures, comments, threats, or actions which cause or threaten to cause bodily harm or personal degradation."
Threats should be taken seriously no matter if the bully was "just kidding" or if it was said out of "frustration" because that doesn't make it right. Because no matter what these threats shouldn't be tolerated. Bullies should not just get a slap on the wrist. Bullies need to receive consequences and take responsibility for there actions.
Administrators/staff need to stop "turning a blind eye" to bullying situations and they need to enforce the rules. And need to take a charge against bullying and create a "Bully-Free Environment."
I urge you today to stand up against bullying and harassment and create safe spaces for all students by implementing a comprehensive and inclusive bullying policy for Wilmington City School District.
IT'S TIME TO TAKE A STAND AND PUT A STOP BULLIES!
BULLYING IS NOT RIGHT AND SHOULD NOT BE TOLERATED UNDER AND CIRCUMSTANCES.
