Name: Nick Rojas on Apr 28, 2011Graduating Year.: 2013Comments: How can a school that wants to restore its glory in basketball do that by placing the students in the worst seats in the house in favor of making for money? What really should be asked is, What Would Wooden Do? Would he put big moneymakers in front of students to watch the team and support athletics? Think on that for a while Mr. Athletic DirectorFlag

However, the ineptitude of the Morgan Center, in it's handling of the Pauley renovation, and especially in it's disregard for the students, has me bleeding blue and gold in the worst possible way - it's killing me. Restore student sideline seating, please!!!! UCLA should be all about the students, period.Flag

Name: Dan Nasitka on Apr 28, 2011Graduating Year.: 2008Comments: It's absurd that the UCLA athletic department would pull a fast one on the students such as the seating debacle at Pauley. The student section is the only entity that actually brings energy into that arena (thank you apathetic alumni who sit on your hands during games). Moving them behind the basket would only further disseminate the lackluster effort that the Morgan Center is displaying in regards to competing for championships at UCLA.Flag

An insult to students does nothing for the rest of the fans or future recruitment into the program. It wasn't broken so why change it?Flag

Name: Ryan Walters on Apr 28, 2011Graduating Year.: 2010Comments: UCLA already had what many considered to be a weak home court advantage. Pauley was originally designed in the 1960s with a different idea of what a basketball stadium was supposed to be: that is, the court set as a "stage" as though it was in a theater and the "audience" removed as it is in a concert hall. Today's modern basketball stadiums put the fans right on court level, creating a lot more interaction between player and fan. A great case in point is the basketball arena at University of Oregon, which many contend is the toughest place to play in the Pac-10 (12?) Don't make the new Pauley weaker than the previous. We already get a bad rep for being fairweather, lukewarm fans.Flag

Instead of relegating the students to the end of the court they should be given greater access to seating along the floor.Flag

Name: Anonymous on Apr 28, 2011Graduating Year.: 2011Comments: Keep the students on the sidelines where they belong, in a respected position. You don't see Duke hiding their student body behind a basket, thus they allow for a truly intimidating home-field advantage in addition to always looking fantastic on TV. If we want to be back in the national spotlight, recruit better, and see increased donations, the Morgan Center needs to listen to what the students want, and they want to be on the sidelines.Flag

Name: Matthew Vincent on Apr 28, 2011Graduating Year.: 1995Comments: I believe that pushing the students away from their traditional position along one of the sidelines in Pauley Pavilion will be detrimental to the home-court atmosphere of the games and will hurt the team's competitive edge. The diminished energy would not well serve recruiting efforts as well. Furthermore, it is short sighted to make decisions purely based on the pressures of the "now" with seeming disregard to their long-term impact. Students excited and energized about attending games and supporting the team now eventually become alumni who share the same sentiments for life. Marginalize the students and you reinforce apathy or, at the very least, provide little draw to bring in those students hovering on the edge of becoming devoted fans. Relegating the students only to the poorest viewing sections of the arena is neither a positive for the energy one would hope to see at our home games nor a sound investment in the future support of the program. I strongly urge reconsideration of the current seating plan to restore the students to the north sideline of the court.Flag
