Name: Mr G Thompson on May 21, 2009Comments: I have been saying to colleagues and friends since I moved back to Scotland, it is about time something was done to ease congestion at Longman Roundabout/Kessock Bridge. Obviously when the bridge was built the volume of traffic was a lot less than today and it can only get worse. I think that a flyover or slip roads off the A9 would ease congestion.Flag

Name: Steven Carmichael on May 29, 2009Comments: These comments are posted by a civil servant employed by Transport Scotland, an agency of the Scottish Government. “Transport Scotland commissioned its operating company Scotland Transerv to carry out a traffic capacity study at the Longman Roundabout, which is near the southern end of Kessock Bridge, and this is now complete. “This study has identified a preferred solution to traffic congestion in this area and we have asked Scotland Transerv to work up a preliminary design and costing." Background Information § The preliminary design is expected later this year and will be considered in line with other competing budget priorities. STPR – INVERNESS AREA 1. The Strategic Transport Projects Review (STPR) recommended a new link between the A9 and A96 (Eastern section of Inverness bypass) providing relief for the Raigmore Interchange on the A9 south of the Longman Roundabout. To the north of Inverness, STPR recommends targeted measures to reduce accident severity on the A9. 2. A link between the A82 and A9 (Western section of Inverness bypass) was also considered within the STPR. However, this concluded that environmental constraints, coupled with high capital costs and relatively low benefits meant that this scheme offered poor value for money. 3. The Scottish Government is willing to assist Highland Council in considering technically feasible and affordable solutions for a link connecting the A82 to the A9 section of the Inverness Bypass in taking forward the Highland Local Development Plan. 4. The STPR consideration of network performance did recognise the constraints at Longman, Raigmore and Inshes junctions around Inverness.Flag

Name: Anonymous on Jun 5, 2009Comments: If commuter buses were put on to Stoneyfield and Inshes Business Parks from town at reasonable prices people would use them. At the moment they only go to Tescos or the Hospital which is not much use. ie. Travel from Dingwall return to town is around £3.25 per day onward travel to Tesco Retail £2.50 return does not make sense. Bus companys need to address this issue as well then maybe more people would use public transport. I know that I would. The bridge is a nightmare and you have to leave your home at 8.00 in order to start work at 9am.Flag

While a grade separated juncton at Longman with the A9 passing clear ober the existig roundabout is probably the ideal for which to aim, a light controlled junction would greatly improve traffic flow.Flag
