Straight ticket voting is an outdated legacy of the 19th century, a remnant of the political machines that were established to limit the paticipation of American voters. It's long past time we got rid of it. |
Rachel Miller | Providence | It's time.
Kathleen Rourke | Providence |
Jean Ann Guliano | East Greenwich | I agree. It makes it too easy to ignore the individual qualities of candidates. Voters need to educate themselves as to their vote. Not just vote, blindly.

Bruce Rider | North Providence | Eliminate straight ticket voting. It makes it to easy to vote without understanding the issues or the candidate's position. It is the lazy person way to vote.
Liberty Goodwin | Providence | We need not only individual voting for each candidate, but also instant runoff voting - allowing voters to pick their first, second and third choices. Elimination allows the selection of a candidate actually favored by more than half the electorate. People can vote their true inclinations rather than worrying about who can win, and the "Nader effect".
