Doctor Rogers needs to be removed from Superintendent at Liberty School District in Buckeye, Arizona. The district is failing to meet its core mission, the education of the youth. With the budget cutbacks, the district is challenged to meet its mission, and we need leadership now more than ever. Dr. Rogers, unable to meet this challenge head on, has resorted to starting a marketing campaign to start STEM schools. Despite the apparent view of Dr. Rogers, undertaking a new curriculum is not trivial. No one in Liberty schools has experience developing a magnet program, much less a STEM certified school. The staff is not prepared, there are no funds available to even keep the current teaching staff, improved equipment cannot be funded, and there has been only a token investment in research for a modified curriculum and one has not been established. The two STEM schools were announced to start this fall. This is a recipe for public disaster. Liberty schools are losing students to publicly funded charter schools. Exiting students and families will result in additional public funding losses, up to $2M per year. Westar enrollment is projected to be 50% of this year. Parents simply want a solid education foundation for their children, and they will do what’s in their child’s best interest. Teachers are moving to the charter schools as well, often with a pay cut. The community is not moving because there is no STEM offering, they are moving for Core Knowledge, and a top level dedication to educational ideals. Dr. Rogers doesn’t know what to do. He misleads or lies to parents about his plans, probably because he doesn’t have any, and is changing them often. He is moving from the core education mission to a promise of “something even better.” He is dividing neighborhoods and campuses, creating scandal, and has no vision he can deliver on. To save Liberty Schools, we need to act now. We need to bolster core academics, and improve the confidence of families attending our schools. We do not need gimmicks and programs which are dependent on experience and materials we lack. We need a leader who can restore real confidence in real programs, not imaginary ones. We need to remove Andy Rogers and hire a professional.
