We are a group of students from Highbury Grove school age 14-15 who what to put a stop on homelessness. The most recent statistic (to 30th June 2010) shows that there are 74,690 households in temporary accommodations. Of these, 72% are families or pregnant women. In contrast only 2% are people eligible for permanent housing because of their age. The charities estimate that up to fifth of England’s 44,000 hostels beds could close with charities facing a average 30% reduction in sources from April as a result of local authority spending cuts. We are urging you to help us take action to stop the increase of homelessness and cuts, by putting pressure on the government and our local MP Jeremy Carbon to help the homeless.
