13 AnonymousPlease hurry in making this change happen. Our economy is in bad enough shape, but all the goods we purchase are transported. The cost of fuel impacts th cost of transportation and the prices at teh stores are increasing as a result. Compund that with the fact that Dominion Power is seeking and 18% rate hike here in Virgina, increases the outlay by an estimnates $200+ per family. People hav not seen salary increases even at the 5% rate in many many years. Over these same years we have born the brunt of significantly increased percentages in the overal cost of medical benefits that employees pay compared to the employer's contribution because companies can no longer afford to to pay the high %'s they had been in the past. Studies have shoewn that comapies will implode finanicially based on keeping those % contribution levels. So, ok what does all this have to do with the gas prices? We are currently in a recession, with the cycle we are in as described above people's cost of living has not kept up with the increased costs in healthcare, and the increasing food & goods prices and now gas & home heating/air. We are heading for two things: 1. An economic depression 2. A republican full court press (many of them are invested in that commodity) to release environmental restrictions so that we can dig for oil on land reserves (thus they wil gain financially yet again - at the taxpayer expense). - We should not allow this to happen, the focus needs to be on alternative energy as the other alternative is a short term fix with long term environmental consequences. We already know that the next major world shortage is going to be water........ Thank you Glenn for seeking comments, perhaps I'll see you again at one of the VA Bch Dem breakfasts. Sue
