The petition

Marisol Alba and Sean Strauss, teachers at Celerity Nascent Charter School in Los Angeles, were fired by school administrators for openly supporting the right of students to read a poem honoring Emmett Till as part of the school's scheduled Black History Month celebration. We, the undersigned educators, students, parents, and citizens, call upon the administrators of Celerity Nascent Charter School to reverse this wrong-headed decision. It is unconscionable for the leaders of a public school to try to suppress either the memory of Civil Rights struggles or the principled convictions of the school's students and teachers. To honor the legacy of the Civil Rights Movement's martyrs and the promise of our youngest generation, we demand justice for these unfairly fired teachers.
