Life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness; this is what is promised us as American citizens, and for those around the world, it is what draws them to our shores. For over two centuries the American experiment has flourished with the idea of the American dream, where if you work hard and obey the law the limit of your success is only bound by the limits of your imagination. The humblest of these ambitions is that of owning your own home, your own piece of land. Property ownership is one our most valued rights as American citizens; a place to call your own, to raise your family, and pass on through the generations. Now it would seem with the United States Supreme Court Decision in KELO ET AL v. CITY OF NEW LONDON (NO. 04-108), June 23, 2005, that dream can be wiped away at the whim of any local government for economic reasons. In this case a group of homes, in good condition and in a good middle class neighborhood are to be condemned because the City of New London can get higher tax revenue and more jobs by giving that land to another
