Dear Emerson College Board of Trustees,

Thank you for instituting the lowest tuition increase of the past seven years, 3.7%, at your meeting last spring. We greatly appreciated this prudent decision to keep our financial situations in mind. As the economy continues to put a financial strain on many students, we urge the board to continue your efforts to approach tuition cost responsibly.

Emerson College provides students with opportunities they could not find at any other institution, and students dedicate their passion and talents to enrich this community. In the interest of allowing qualified students the opportunity to continue their education at Emerson, we request that you do not increase tuition by more than 3.7% for the 2010-2011 academic year.

Between lost jobs, student loans and financial aid mishaps, many students are struggling to meet the cost of tuition. For some, a substantial increase in tuition cost would force them to leave Emerson College and invest in a more modestly priced education. Given the relative stability of the national Consumer Price Index and inflation since last spring, we urge the board to avoid increasing tuition by more than last year, if at all.

                                          Sincerely,

                                          Scott Fisher, Student Body President

                                          Cami Bravo, Class of 2012

and the undersigned students of Emerson College
