According to the Bayside City council (http://www.bayside.vic.gov.au/have_your_say.htm) the "Sportsground Strategy is being prepared as a planned response to providing sportsground facilities to support a sustainable sporting future in Bayside and better meet community service needs. The Strategy is being developed by Council to respond to changing participation trends across the sports of athletics, baseball, cricket, football and soccer, climate change and the need to provide equitable access to better meet community needs and expectations. The Sportsground Strategy will guide Council risk management responsibilities, respond to the challenges of climate change, encourage equitable access and will facilitate service delivery to better meet community needs now and in the future. The Strategy will assist Council achieve an appropriate balance of passive and active recreation and conservation outcomes with recommendations optimising use of open space to meet sporting and wider community needs." However, the implementation of this proposed strategy will no longer allow dog owners to walk their dogs off lead in Elsternwick Park. Along with the proposed development of fencing and a pavilion, dog owners will lose the right to use the park. Help by signing this petition opposing the proposed strategy.
