Did you know that our taxes go toward paying for welfare? Not all taxes go to welfare, but billions of our tax dollars go towards it each year. Welfare was created during the Great Depression to help people during that time of extreme financial trial. Welfare in this case was very beneficial, but there is no longer that need for welfare, there are other options to get out of financial difficulty. Michael Tanner, director of health and welfare studies at Cato institute and author of The End of Welfare: Fighting Poverty in the Civil Society said that if Welfare were to be eliminated that there would be fewer children born into poverty, fewer poor people, and fewer children born out-of-wedlock. Not only that, but, poor women with children out-of-wedlock would be more likely to give their child up for adoption in hopes for a better future. Also the poor would be more likely to go to work, rather than living on welfare. Understand that welfare cannot be eliminated immediately it will take time. Elimination of welfare may sound negative, but it would help people to get back on their feet and to start living their lives the way they should.
