Is there no human being left on the face of this planet with a heart and soul I think that everyone should practise some EMPATHY once in a while and see what it may feel like from the elephants perspective. Name: Caroline Wallington on Feb 28, 2008Comments: Elephants are sentient, complicated and emotional beings that deserve our respect and care. We simply cannot treat them as inanimate objects and see only the damage they are causing in their habitats- which humans have negatively affected. The government and our environmental management need to show that they care for the elephants, and ultimately the life of each individual animal that we are responsible for. The licence to murder elephants and the insufficient is doing just the opposite. Murder is not an option if we want to progress.Flag

Name: Angela MacDonald on Feb 28, 2008Comments: I do not understand why the elephants population cannot be brought under control by forced sterilization This is a barbaric slaughter. Shame on Africa!! I also find it extremely ironic that the only animal population that seems to be mass producing is mankind. Shame on all of us.Flag

Name: Diana Hartig on Feb 28, 2008Comments: Sir, this is a step back to the stone age for South Africa. Apartheid has once torn you country into two and long was the time to heal these wounds. Now the same people who hailed its end embark on the mass murder of beings who have inhabited this country from times beyond recollection .. displaying in this act another kind of Apartheid - the must-not-be of a peaceful co-existence of man and animal. This shames you, and all of us. The Japene rid the world of the whales, the Canadians, Russians and Namibians of the seals, and you of the elephants. What will remain, tell me that A torn and rabid mankind that will eventually devour itself. Racism is as speciesism = it is intolerance of the other. YOU of all people should have learnt THIS lesson !!! Stop this right now !!Flag

Name: Barbara Holtz on Feb 28, 2008Comments: Please do not kill elephants! They deserve the right to live, just like you and me! When you kill elephants, in the end, you destroy ourselves, as one more species edges towards extinction and one more card is removed from the 'house of cards' called the 'web of life'. Please give those majestic animals the right to live!Flag

Name: Mark Johnson on Feb 28, 2008Comments: They were there first, and should be given the respect and protection because of this. I am disgusted that such magnificent animals will be killed yet again because of the want of (some) men who can see no further than the end of their big fat noses. It idsgusts me and you are boycotted from now on. STOP THE CULLFlag

Name: Katherine Meyer on Feb 28, 2008Comments: This is not conservation - the money and effort being put into massacring these magnificent elephants and destroying and traumatizing their families should be put into habitat conservation and anti-poaching efforts. This sets a very bad precedent for other imperilled species around the world.Flag
