Name: Nina Springle on Feb 26, 2008Comments: This should have been sorted long ago. That Deakin has accept students from all over the country (and world), taken their money in the way of fees and continue to insist on hard copy assignment submission is ludicrous. If you are going to offer off campus study, ask people to download copious amounts of study material from the net, then surely you can make it a little easier for them to hand in their assignments using the same means. We have the technology, please use it.Flag

Name: Emma Moreland on Feb 28, 2008Comments: Electronic submissions for off campus students are a great idea given that our learning is done all on line. Posting not only means assignments need to be submitted earlier than other students it also means we have to rely on Australia Post to be reliable.Flag

Name: Joanne McCallum on Feb 29, 2008Comments: I am an off-campus student and agree that online submission of assignments should be available to off-campus students. I was very surprised to see that online submission was not available when I first commenced my studies. Each semester clarification of assignment due dates has been required, especially where an assignment is due on a Monday. Domestic off-campus students that do not live in remote areas are required to submit assigments via the post - meaning that they must be express posted by 9am on the preceding Friday in order to make a Monday submission deadline, while students that are overseas or living in remote areas are able to submit electronically right up to the last minute on the Monday. Depending on the tutor (and I must admit most have been very reasonable and look at the date an assigment is post marked) this can result in inequity as some students are therefore entitled to at least an additional 3 days (Fri, Sat, Sun and potentially most of Mon). While the tutors I have studied under have been fair and considered the date an assignment is post marked to ensure all students are given the same length of preparation time, I have had to renegotiate this each semester and consider online submission would provide greater clarity and simplicity for students and tutors.Flag

Name: Jeanette Major on Feb 29, 2008Comments: I find it astonishing that electronic submission via drop box is not available as a means for submitting assignment work. This is a basic service that ensures that work does not get lost in the mail, is secure, and is submitted on time. It is also cheaper than posting from international destinations! It is essential for distance students to have this service so they know their work has been received by lecturers.Flag

Name: Georgina Hinton on Feb 29, 2008Comments: Living 30km from town it is difficult having to post assignments. With the unreliable service we experience here from Aust Post (with plenty of lost mail) it also makes it necessary to send the assignment via express post to ensure it reaches its destination. This is an extra financial burden that students just don't need.Flag

Name: Elizabeth Svendsen on Feb 29, 2008Comments: as a student that has completed both online and off-campus units as well as on campus subjects, i feel as if those students who are completing off-campus units are disadvantaged by the current system requiring assignments to be submitted in hard copy rather than in electronic form. Not only does the postal system result in a week less of valuable time that could be spent finalising work of these students, they also miss often vital last minute information or opportunity to clarify items posted on dso.Flag

Name: Jemma McMillan on Feb 29, 2008Comments: i completely agree, i am starting my first distance ed courses this semester and was shocked to learn that there would not be ALL electronic submission. i honestly believed it would all be done electronically in this day and age (some art submissions prehaps not for obvious reasons). this is a fantastic petition and i strongly support the push.Flag
