Name: David Trimm on Jul 11, 2008Comments: I hope the range of the Mini exceeds 200 miles per charge. I would also encourage the network for charging stations to parallel development. I can only pray that all of these electric vehicles will have the same type of charging plugs and systems.Flag

Name: Meme on Jul 11, 2008Comments: $35K I'm sorry, but that's an unrealistic price target. The MINI's drag coeff is too high, so it's going to take too many Wh/mi, meaning for decent range and battery longevity, you're going to need a big pack. And that's not cheap. And no, you don't want "a stack of laptop batteries" in there. You want either the (currently) more expensive automotive li-ions or something like Tesla's, where they coddle the cells relentlessly (tons of cooling, load balancing, etc) and use huge numbers of them (read: expensive) to reduce the strain on each individual cell. And even still, it's only good for ~5 years. You'll get a longer life out of the (currently more expensive) automotive li-ions. Oh, and as for the other components that you think they can just "throw in", a charger will run you $2-5k (depending on what sort of voltage/amperage you want to be able to charge at, and thus, how quickly), an inverter and motor powerful enough to run a car like this, $8-20k, depending on what sort of accel you want out of it, and so on. And there's all sorts of other aspects you need to take care of as well. Don't ask for the impossible. You're just going to get yourself dissapointed.Flag

Name: Matthew Zacherle on Jul 11, 2008Comments: Of all the auto companies BMW and Mini are the two I consider to be my favorites; and owning a Mini has been my dream since the car was revived. I have been holding out only in the hopes that an electric version would be produced. I would buy one on the spot given the chance. And now I do have the chance. Please Bring the Mini to the east coast. Don't let Californians have all the fun!! Best regardsFlag

The Mitsubishi iMiev is off the list because of planned battery lease, so my best prspect is the Aptera. I would much prefer a Mini. D.Flag
