The petition

We, the undersigned, as business owners, registered voters, and concerned citizens of El Dorado County, California, oppose any implementation or revision of our county's sign codes as recommended by the Development Services Department on 12/21/2006.

El Dorado County is not a bedroom community of Sacramento, and we as business owners rely on the signs on our vehicles, buildings, and stores to serve our local customers. We oppose any ordinance change that requires special use permitting, county review of our message, colors, style or ad content, or any requirement that may increase costs to place a sign on our property unless such sign is electrified or illuminated.

We expressly oppose any ordinance, proposed or enacted, that limits our right to commercial free speech on our vehicles or in our stores and offices.

We expressly oppose any Our businesses are the life blood of the local economy, and we need public exposure to exist, and we have a right to the freedom of commercial speech to ensure that our businesses survive and prosper. By prospering, we support the county's tax base and economic stability.

We feel the proposed changes will adversely impact our ability to advertise to the tourists and general public, and will not only harm our economy, but will increase confusion, traffic accidents, and travedo business in El Dorado County or be competitive with out of county businesses.
