Comments: This legislation is using a steam roller to kill a mosquito and does more to harm seniors than to help them. It is wide open to abuse and there has been very little thought put into it - or are we going to rob seniors of their homes, privacy and savings --and why This government seems feel that we are senile and will not notice what is being done to diminish our value. We are stilll contributing and have paid provincial, federal and municipal taxes including education taxes for many, many years and indeed most of us are still paying. I think we deserve much more consideration before Tom, Dick or Harry can declare us incompetent!

Comments: I am quite shocked by what I read in the brochure about the proposed Act. It is outrageous that such a document is even being considered by our legislators and I believe it must be stopped.

Comments: While I understand that the intent of Bill 24 is to ensure the wellbeing of incapacitated elders, it is clear from the examples provided by Elder Advocates of Alberta Society that the legislation is seriously flawed and allows mistreatment of capable elders. Please rewrite Bill 24 to include reasonable and appropriate safeguards to ensure that capable and incapacitated elders are not mistreated.

Comments: This Act is ugly and leave seniors unprotected and at the mercy of family and seniors housing for verbal, mental and physical abuse which is ramped in our society and nursing care establishments. This is an attrocious and attocracy against Alberta Seniors. I know of family that had parents made incompetent for their selfish purposes.

Comments: I have read some of it already and i"m outright infuriated how people can get away with this. I'm 33 and my mother Is psychologically abusive as well as mentally abusive. She has slapped me once in a fight 12/11. She has made my life unbearable to a point and she has committed contempt of court by not having a capacity assessment done on me twice in the last 6 yrs. she had reduced to the the functioning level of that of a 6 yr old, that being said had lied to a federal judge. I'm trying hard to become my own guardian and trustee and am looking for emancipation. She has no real concern or takes any real interest in me but needs to keep up appearances in front of others. I know the emotional damage that it can have on a person as a result.
