Ehsan is finally free and heading home. We forced the Iranian authorities to stop their illegal detention of a student who never should have spent a single day behind bars. We will keep watching to ensure he gets back to his research without any further interference.
Ehsan Abdoh Tabrizi, PhD student at the School of Government and International Affairs at Durham University, and former MA student in History at the University of Essex, has been in prison in Iran since mid-January 2010. He was detained after travelling to Tehran during the holidays to visit his family, and in particular his ailing mother. It appears that Ehsan has spent long periods in total isolation and is yet to be charged, allowed legal representation or visitors.
The fact and circumstances of Ehsan’s return to Iran as well as his continued detention suggest his innocence. In this light, and in view of basic human rights enshrined in international and Iranian laws, we believe that Ehsan Abdoh Tabrizi should be released immediately and allowed to return to the UK to resume his PhD research at Durham.
The sheer number of people demanding Ehsan's release proves that the Iranian authorities cannot keep hiding him in total isolation. This momentum is a direct threat to their silence and we will keep the pressure on until he is back in the United Kingdom.

We just hit one hundred signatures. The Iranian authorities are keeping Ehsan in total isolation but they cannot hide the truth from this growing alliance of people demanding his immediate release. We keep pushing until he is back at his studies.

This is just awful. Imprisoning a student for visiting his own mother is beyond cruel. Let him go home.

Justice for Ehsan. No one should be held without charges for this long. Shameful.
