Unfortunately, the town is burdened with a very different kind of Building Inspector-- Ed May. May has developed a reputation for exercising his authority at times in an almost arbitrary manner, obstructing both contractors and business owners. The effects of Mr. May's actions have begun to ripple throughout the area, with many residents and businesses questioning whether Great Barrington is really the best choice for their investments.

Mr. May's manner is not in keeping with the spirit of responsible management that the Town of Great Barrington promotes. It should not take a fight to have a building inspector conduct himself sensitively with all that is at stake with building prospects in Great Barrington. There has already been damage done to the business interests of the community. Therefore, we call on the Town Manager to dismiss Mr. May before even more significant consequences emerge as a result of his misguided approach to his job.
