Edinburgh and Scotland need to compete the trams system - 1. To improve and expand the public transport system,reduce traffic congestion and air pollution. 2. To make possible the development of Princes Street as the centre piece of the outstanding city. 3. To improve access to central Edinburgh with links to the airport and rail services serving the rest of Scotland. 4. To make it possible for Edinburgh to aspire to the standards of the many European cities where tram systems over many decades have been decisive in creating flourishing city centres.
