Elmhurst College has always been very welcoming to the new ideas and desires of its students as well as being open to beginning new groups. In this fashion we propose, not an entirely new club, but bringing Elmhurst into a club that I feel it has long needed to belong to. I speak, of course, of a speech team. Some of you reading this may have been on a speech team in high school, and had no idea that there was a college level speech team. Some of you may have never heard of speech team. Well, if you care to have a new venture to expand on your acting or speech-giving skills, as well as writing skills, this is definitely something to check out. Speech team allows for many different events, including events for acting out scenes on your own or giving speeches (both prepared ahead of time and made up during competition), as well as duet events for acting. These are short scenes performed for a "rank," along with critiques on how to improve. Elmhurst can definitely benefit from such an opportunity. Once we acquire enough signatures, I'd like to present this to Ian Crone so he can see the interest in this and possibly help us get started to bringing a speech team to Elmhurst College.
