The 600 block of East College Avenue at Penn State is a place where cars drive too quickly too often and students using the sidewalk are offered little protection. The recent accident which occurred on December 2, 2006--when a student was hit by a car on this stretch of road--show that safety measures need to be added to the road to make it safer for pedestrian use. Among them are: 1) add a guardrail to the end of the sidewalk, 2) add speedbumps and/or rumble strips to the strip of road just before the turn in the eastbound lanes, 3) remove the eastbound lane closest to University Gateway and the Meridians and extend the sidewalk, 4) construct a raised and enclosed walkway connecting Eastview and the 600 block. By signing this petition, I am asking the powers that be at Penn State and Centre County to help bring about these changes.
