The petition

I support the efforts of the not-for-profit, Erie-Cattaraugus Rail-Trail organization (ECRT) in its efforts to convert the unused and soon to be vacated 27.6 mile section of the Buffalo & Pittsburgh Railroad line to a multi-use recreational trail. This section, which begins in Orchard Park in Erie County and ends in the Town of Ashford in Cattaraugus County, connects five communities, two ski areas and travels through some of the most spectacular countryside in all of Western New York. By saving, or rail-banking this rail corridor, communities will be afforded many opportunities to use the trail. Possible uses may include walking, hiking, jogging, bicycling, horseback riding, nature observation, snow shoeing, cross country skiing, or snowmobiling. Studies of similar trails have shown that they improve the health and general well-being of citizens in neighboring communities, promote positive economic growth and can increase values to property along the corridor.

I am, therefore, pleased to offer my support of the Erie Cattaraugus Rail-Trail organization in their ongoing efforts to preserve this valuable recreational resource.
