Every day Pakistanis fall victims to guns. Deaths through targeted and random shootings are on the rise. No segment of society is safe any longer. In Karachi alone, in 2009 1747 people were killed, in 2010 – 1981, in 2011 – 2200, and in 2012 - approximately 2024. This is more than the numbers killed each year by drone attacks. The State promotes this violence by making it easy to acquire weapons. Over the last 5 years the Federal Government issued 1.2 million weapon licenses while the Sindh government alone issued 0.4 million licenses. In the same period, 69,000 licenses for prohibited bore weapons were issued to 342 MNAs. The Constitution states that it is the duty of the State to safeguard and protect, not endanger, the lives of its citizens. We demand that the government review its laws pertaining to weapons and restrict their availability to all and sundry. De-weaponize Pakistan
