Name: Sally-Ann Bowen on Feb 9, 2007Comments: Hi, My dad used to work for British Rail and we travelled on all the Duke ships. Would love to see the Duke of Lancaster restored and moved to a maritime museum, history shouldn't be descarded, and this is the last surviving steamer, but in a dreadful state. it should be restored maybe with lottery money (that hasn't been claimed) or go on the restoration programme). Many many people would love to see this ship restored. thank you. :) SalFlag

Name: Denis Ranaghan on Feb 12, 2007Comments: I am one of the last surviving crew member of the Duke of Lancaster and I was pantry boy on her in September 1956 on her maiden voyage. I took her from Holyhead to Fishguard to be sold in the late 70's I had senior rank then. Her original bosun is still alive too and a few of her drew from the the 60's to '74. It is imperitive that a classic ship should be saved and protected. There are few examples of the great British Merchant Navy fleets of the 50's,60's and 70's. Beautiful ships and only photographs and models of them. I will help you as much as I can with this project. I wish you all the best of luck and hope that a Co Council or corporate body can take care of the old girl. Denis Ranaghan.Flag

Name: David Long on Feb 27, 2007Comments: Aside from the fact that my late but remarkable uncle, Jack Irwin, was the ship's Captain, I'd like to see the ship rescued and restored as she represents an important if now little known piece of our maritime heritage. Her scrap value would be minimal, and once she's gone she'll be gone for good.Flag

Name: Rob Schumm on Feb 27, 2007Comments: After been told the tales of this great ship and it's importnace to my dear friend Andrew Veal, i feel it should be saved as it holds so many memories of his uncle. I now live in Wales and feel the welsh and Yorkshire people would appreciate its historical value. Kind regards.Flag
