Comments: The FDA, Big Pharma, and Mental Health Industry are making up diseases in order to make more money for their businesses; FDA included. Stop this latest attempt at insanity on the part of the FDA who gets kickbacks, the doctors in the mental health field and PCP's who get monetary kickbacks from Big Pharma. Stop them from destroying mankind. They are non-humans destroying the lives of children and adults in this country, wishing to turn all of us into automatons; non-thinking, non-individuals. The DSM V is a major evil bible for the ones that would destroy mankind and any kind of individuality or thinking outside the box. Don't let them turn citizens of the US into robots. It's the psychotic drugs that are driving people crazy; crazy enough to go out and murder other people. It's not guns that kill people; it's the psychotic drugs that drive people to pick up guns and murder other people. They must be stopped!

Comments: As a Clinical Psychologist who teaches Abnormal Psychology (a sorely misnamed course, based on most epidemiological research), I frequently have to field questions about why the DSM is the way that it is and what will be the process for revising it. Although one might not take the reactions of undergraduates (many of whom are not even majoring in psychology) as seriously as those of behavioral scientists and practitioners, it is striking that even with their limited familiarity with psychopathology, most students are quite skeptical of the reliability, validity, and process of creating the DSM-IV-TR. Little available evidence about the development of the DSM-V appears to increase their confidence about these matters, either. I would strongly urge the American Psychiatric Association to carefully consider the dangers of moving toward a primarily neurobiological theoretical stance as the foundation of the DSM-V, and raise the standard of empirical evidence required to modify it. Our clients, students, colleagues, and society will be grateful...

Comments: I am seriously concerned that DSM V will further entrench classifications of "disorders" and "disease" that have very little verifiable support.

Comments: I am the father of a severely autistic 16 year old son with profound developmental delays. I object to the exclusion from the DSM5 ASD of intellectually disabled by virtue of the opening paragraph of Mandatory Criteron A which excludes social communication deficit based assessment "accounted for by general developmental delays".

Comments: Under the new guidelines, certain responses to grief could be labeled as pathological disorders, instead of being recognized as being normal human experiences. There is a need for “a revision of the way mental distress is thought about, starting with recognition of the overwhelming evidence that it is on a spectrum with 'normal' experience” and the fact that strongly evidenced causal factors include “psychosocial factors such as poverty, unemployment and trauma.”

Comments: The further stereotyping of persons in order to treat them,( often is not needed but instead makes some murderous and or suicidal) is an evil beyond comprehension. How many people of all ages around the world are being injured on all different levels?? These drugs are considered beyond reproach to be a fix all but how many die from them?? They will never tell us the truth of how these drug companies are really often killing people instead if making them better. Who is making sure we are safe from them???Pills are not always the answer but the drug companies want more and more people on their drugs. That is why so many new unneeded catagories are wanted so much, they want more money to make even more often deadly drugs that have not even been tested as much as they should be in my opinion. People I have known on anti- depressants are not any happier but often after taking them are mean and cold. Thus only those that all already dangerous should be considered to take them.
