Re: Donny R. Pleasant #621343, The above stated prisoner is at The Thumb Correctional Facility in Lapeer, Mi. He is serving time for Drinking and Driving causing great body injury. (No one died or had life threatening injuries). He was sentenced to 5 to 10 years. At the time of the accident he was almost killed and prior to incarceration had several surgeries(pelvic reconstrution, bone biopsies for infections,and others). He also suffered from severe brain trauma and experiences memory loss, he has been ordered to stay in his wheelchair because his Doctors nor The State will perform needed surgeries. The State has informed him that they will not pay for needed surgeries. These medical procedures are needed to rebuild his pelvis and physical therapies to reteach him how to walk again and have some quality of life. Now I know this man was wrong for drinking and driving...something many of us do on a regular basis,though that\'s no excuse, but the fact is he was not given the death PENALTY!!! We need to do something so that our correctinal system is just that and not a death sentence. If they can\'t afford the cost of his medical care, which is feasible, I suppose, then they should put him on house arrest or commutate his sentence. His auto insurance will pay for all his medical expenses, and living expenses, only when he is no longer in prison. The man has learned his lesson and is a danger to no one, so let\'s give him a chance to live and perhaps help someone else to keep from making the same mistakes. People in this state need to stand up for what is right and not just cost effective, for heavens sake. Please help this 28 year old young man by signing this petition. Make your voices heard....
