We, the undersigned, call on the Champaign County State’s Attorney Julia Rietz to drop the charge of aggravated resistance of a peace officer against Jeshaun Manning-Carter. The charge stems from his and Kiwane Carrington’s encounter with the Champaign Police on October 9, 2009, when Kiwane was shot dead by the police. This 16-year-old teen has already suffered the trauma of being present while his best friend was killed, which is being compounded by an unnecessary and highly questionable felony charge.
