Name: William Bulman on Mar 5, 2010Comments: To the Honorable Mayor of Tucson and Distinguished Members of the City Council, As a former resident of Tucson I follow the news and events of the Old Pueblo quite closely. I am gravely concerned about what I have been reading about the potential loss of one the areas greatest public resources, Access Tucson. I understand that the current economic crisis does require some fiscal cost reductions. While you may be saving money by cutting funding to Access Tucson, you will guarantee the loss of an asset that not only provides a voice to the creative public in the Tucson area and a valuable service to the local school districts, but to businesses looking at Tucson as a possible city for relocation, as my company is doing right now. I lived in Tucson for 27 years before moving to Connecticut in 2005. In Connecticut, the cost of doing business with the state, the lack of talented individuals in this region, and the amount of inclement weather have persuaded me to move back to the Southwest even in these tough economic times. We have been evaluating Tucson, Marana, Phoenix and several places in New Mexico as possible locations to move our company. AmberWyvern™ Studios LLC is a multi-media production studio specializing in television, film, and music production, web site design and hosting, and IT support services. The availability of talented people with the skill sets and access to facilities and organizations to augment and support our projects are factors we consider when we make the final decision to where we will be moving. Tucson has most of what we are looking for. This move will mean at 25-40 new jobs in the community. I have been in business since 1987 and still call Tucson my home. I say that I from Tucson with great pride. While in Tucson, I became a member of Access Tucson. I attended many of the classes they offered and came to know the individuals who work and volunteer at there. The staff's commitment to their craft and passion for free speech and public access television is nothing short of inspirational. I had the pleasure and honor to volunteer on projects such as Fiesta de Los Barrios. Access Tucson gives the community a voice, a means to communicate and share its stories. Access Tucson even provided the City Council a voice to the public in the past. I ask you, the Honorable Mayor and Distinguished Members of City Council, have the courage to make the hard, but right choice, and support Access Tucson. This treasure needs to be nurtured and protected during this recession. The decisions you make reach beyond the Old Pueblo and could impact a business's decision to relocate to Tucson. Sincerely, William Bulman CEO AmberWyvern Studios LLCFlag

Name: Rich Burlingham on Mar 5, 2010Comments: All citizens, including elected officials must realize that community access organizations, such as Access Tucson, are not only outlets for community voices, thought that is vitally important, but they are also media centers that assist members of the community learn more about communication technologies, be a vital partner with local non-profits in getting their messages out and a huge resource to students that may not be exposed or have the ability to access communication technologies because of the drastic cuts in school funding. By letting Access Tucson shut down you must be aware that you affecting the entire community and ending one of the last bits of localism left in the American media landscape.Flag

Someone has mismanaged the funds and now you the mayor and council are STEALING the funds from PEG to pay for programs that you have mismanaged. You should do the right thing, the people elected you to do the right thing. Almighty God is going to hold you accountable, we the people might not see how your hand moves but Almighty God does and nobody gets away from Him. Repent now and do the right thing, stop stealing!Flag

Only by providing a forum, for many ideas, will Access continue to be the one oppurtunity for FREE SPEECH uncomprised by Corporate and Govermental interests Producers of Cosmic Chonicles.Flag

Name: Jean Jessup on Mar 5, 2010Comments: I have an open project at Access Tucson I would like to finish. Access Tucson provides me equipment that I cannot afford to get at this time. Projects through Access Tucson can lead to bigger more lucrative projects which could be made in Tucson - projects that would provide employment and revenue to the city. I would strongly urge the City to reconsider keeping Access Tucson open.Flag

Name: Ron Austin on Mar 5, 2010Comments: Access Tucson has assisted me in becoming a film maker and without it the voice of many other people that come after me will be silenced. Do not let this happen. Without the voice of the people only the large corporations and the well monied will have a public voice and even you don't want that to happen.Flag

Access Tucson is essence of what can be done in a Democratic Republic. Compare it with mainstream media which floods society with ugly and dangerously seductive "freedom" to celebrate the worst of what mankind is capable of. Honor what ever tiny spark of idealism still burns somewhere deep in your psyche.Flag
