It is seen in New Jersey, thanks to Kyleigh's Law, that teenagers and young adults are amongst the drivers targeted in the state. Whether it be sexual predators, criminals or even police officers, the fire engine red decal on both license plates provides a simple way for young drivers to gain unwanted attention. Meanwhile, it is not the young adults whom are in need of obtaining these decals, it is the elderly. It should become a state law, or even federal law, that when a Senior Citizen turns 65 years of age, they should be required to not only retake the written test for their driver's license, but they should retake the road test as well. It has become a known factor in society that while teens may be "speedy" at times, senior citizens lack the reflexes to hit the breaks upon impact or loss of control. Many senior citizens often confuse the gas and brake pedal as well, propelling their car forward instead of coming to a slow stop. It is not the young adults who need the attention from the red decals, it is in fact the senior citizens. With them having the decals instead, other drivers will then be aware that they may go extremely below the speed limit, or fail to apply the needed reflexes per situation. Upon retest, if the senior citizens fail to pass either of the two tests, they will need to wait through a six month time period until they can test again. There is plenty of senior citizen transportation services in business that it really is not necessary for them to have a vehicle anyway. Why are we targeting young adults when we have senior citizens blowing through stop signs and causing major accidents? It is time the tables are turned and the roads become a step safer than they are currently.
