The Dreamland Theater, a buildling built as early as 1833 and moved to the site at the turn of the century, has been a working theater for over 90 years. The new developers, however well meaning, are using the "Nantucket way" to gut out the inside of the building. They have not used any preservation techniques, are not interested in re-designing the plan to accomodate historic interior elements, nor are interested in using the federal tax credit to save money. The HDC and Planning Board have both passed their portions of this project. There is no protections for the interiors of historic buildings on Nantucket and this is just another building suffering the same fate. Please help us stop this wanton destruction of historic buildings. |
