We, the honors students of Lamar University, petition Dr. Kevin Dodson to be the new founding dean of the Honors College.

Dr. Kevin Dodson has been the honors program director since 2008. Since then he has continuously created strong, personal bonds with the honors students by being not only their mentor, but a familiar, friendly face. Dr. Dodson shows genuine interest in the goals of his students and encourages them by providing advice and resources. In conversations with Dr. Dodson, he even inquires after his students non-academic interests, recognizing that the full value of the college experience goes beyond the purely academic. He advises his students to meet new people and try new things even as they discover new avenues of learning. Dr. Dodson knows the ins and outs of the honors program: adeptly portioning out responsibilities, organizing events, and constantly pushing his students to become well-rounded and culturally aware intellectuals.

Dr. Dodson is the most logical candidate for the founding dean of the Honors College position. There is no one else we would want leading our Honors College than Dr. Dodson. Let this petition and these signatures serve as a testament of his outstanding impact on the honors students of Lamar University and prompt you, Dr. Evans, to consider him as the prime candidate for dean of the Honors College.
