Whereas: Current and former employees of the Defense Personnel Support Center (DPSC), 2800 S. 20th Street, Philadelphia, PA 19145 (presently called Defense Supply Center Philadelphia, now located at 700 Robbins Ave, Philadelphia, PA) were exposed to hazardous chemicals and substances, unknown to them; And Whereas: These chemicals and substances included pesticides such as DDT, penthochlorophenol, lindane, chordane, friable asbestos, PCB, fugitive dust, benzene vapors, raw sewage, contaminated drinking water, etc.; And Whereas: DPSC management destroyed environmental documents and used false and misleading information about this base in order to deny liability to its employees and community residents; And Whereas: In 1997 Congress provided $35 million to the City of Philadelphia for cleanup of the contamination at the base and will provide the Philadelphia Housing Authority compensation for problems DPSC caused at the Passyunk Homes, but provided no compensation to former employees or area residents; And Whereas: DPSC former employees have suffered, contine to suffer and some have died from illnesses related to hazardous working conditions at DPSC; Therefore: be it resolved that the United States Congress immediately conduct field hearings in Philadelphia to learn about the toxic exposures we have experienced, the health problems we have had and, help us gain the justice we seek.
