| 2 | Dan Wensley | 2.00 parking on weeknds is a RALLY bad idea. |
| 3 | Rebecca Dillon | Downtown businesses are fighting to increase business and here City Council is trying to drive it away. The $2 fee is only going to hurt Roanoke, not help us. |
| 4 | Theresa Baker | Students attending classes in the evening and people utilizing the RHEC facility in the evenings for meetings or training seminars should NOT have to pay parking fees. The appeal to our facility has been the opporunity to hold a meeting or offer evening seminars with no charge for parking at this facility. It is a shame that the City of Roanoke would not support this educational learning facility by waiving this fee for evening parking at this location. It's all about the almightly dollar for the City! |
| 5 | Valerie Garner | The produce vendors will be hurt as there are produce vendors just outside the City limits that can be frequented without having to go downtown and pay $2 to park. |
| 6 | Dylan Hendrix | The $2 parking fee idea would be a colossal blunder and hinder visits to downtown by many.
We want to encourage people to come downtown and spend money at stores and vendors, not give them a reason not to want to come downtown.
High gas prices are already making people feel less like driving to places. Don't let this decision be the final straw to keep people from venturing out to spend what little money they may have leftover from filling up the gas tank! |
| 7 | Robert Rector | This will be one giant step back for the promotion and support of downtown business and activity. |

| 9 | John C. Wilson Sr | As an over sixty year resident of Roanoke City, I view the night time parking fee in the same light as a lot of other recent decisions by our city fathers-----Not good for the betterment of the city as a whole!!! |
| 10 | Scott | If it passes that I'll have to pay to park night & weekends downtown I'll just stop coming down there. If I want to go to Macado's, I'll go to Tanglewood. If I want to shop for produce, I'll go to Fresh Market or the new Ukrops when it opens. |
| 11 | Brandon | In order to make more parking that you can tax, why not knock down the market, Wachovia towers, and the Hotel Roanoke. In fact, clean out Jefferson Street and you can create tons of parking. God knows you will be able to, because you're going to run all businesses out of downtown.
Want to help downtown and generate revenue. Here are some suggestions...make people parking at the mall pay $1...build a few more garages (I don't buy the notion that Roanoke is oh-so-poor)...and most importantly, city council needs to move from the 1950's to the 2000's and BRING MORE COMMERCE DOWNTOWN!!!!! |
| 12 | Kevin | No wonder Roanoke County will soon have more people than the CITY! Isn't that something! Why can't Roanoke ever have a normal goverment! |
| 13 | Laura mae | what's next, paying to drive threw downtown roanoke. |
| 14 | Sheryl Crawford | |
| 15 | Cheryl Roberts | The fee is going to hurt downtown events and merchants looking to pick up sales from people who drop in to browse on the market or grab a drink after work. This is a step in the wrong direction. |
| 16 | Matthew Thomason | |
| 17 | Denise Bailey | If there is a charge for downtown parking then I won't go downtown and my money will be spent elsewhhere. |
| 18 | James Harshfield | While a $2 fee is not a large fee, it sends the wrong message to the one thing our downtown needs to stay healthy: customers! Starting a parking fee provides the excuse for avoiding the downtown altogether, and it opens the door for future rate increases.
Let's keep a healthy and vibrant downtown by encouraging people to visit and shop. Let's avoid the $2 fee for nights and weekends!

| 21 | ronbailey | Hey guys, I'm with you on this... I live in Vinton, but spend much of my time downtown. The fee proposal is a horrible idea, and will only serve to push people away from the area. The timing is all wrong, as well - Downtown businesses are facing increased competition from area malls - and the last thing we need is people burning more gas driving out to the malls. -ronbailey |

| 24 | Clay Haley | We have enjoyed being able to come downtown and enjoy all that is has to offer without having to worry about having cash on hand to pay for parking. I believe this should stay the same or I am afraid the downtown business will suffer. Thank you for your time |
| 25 | Sarah Ogle | Paid parking for night, weekends, and special events will only keep the young people that this city so desperately seeks away. Free parking for nights and weekends is a unique and positive thing for Roanoke. |
| 26 | Kyle S. Inman | Yes, it's but 2 bucks, but yes it is also significant. Roanoke city has finely honed its cold, aloof demeanor with regard to its businesses in particular. Why yank the welcome mat from the door by pawing at the pockets of evening and weekend tourists who already drop plenty of coin in the city coffers? |
| 27 | Anonymous | Vote no to parking fees downtown |
| 28 | Connie Kuhn | There is enough of a struggle for the shops in Downtown Roanoke with out starting to charge parking during the evenings and week ends. Out of all the most outrageous decisions that the City Council has been making this one has got to be the worst. They seem to be wanting to take our city backwards instead of forward with progress. |
| 29 | Adrianne Taylor-White | As a former resident of Roanoke, VA I feel that $2 parking fees on weeknights and weekends is outrageous.
I currently live in Raleigh, NC and there is no fee to park in garages or at meters on weeknights or weekends. |

| 41 | Anonymous | Paying a flat fee to shop for 15 minutes at Orvis or elsewhere in downtown Roanoke is a penalty. At least give these businesses a way to validate parking - charging a flat fee is unfair to them and the customer. I used to drive from Blacksburg on weekends to shop downtown, but no more. I will take my business elsewhere because of this anti-business attitude of the Roanoke City Council. Dumb move folks! |
