The Douglas Corporation finally backed down and the horse tramway is safe. They underestimated how much this heritage means to the people who actually spend their money visiting the island. Keep watching them because we will hold them to their word.
This Petition is for people who love the Douglas Horse Tramway and wish to save it but who are not Manx voters.
We the undersigned support the Douglas Horse Tramway and condemn the decision of Douglas Corporation to scrap it. We ask the Isle of Man Government to save this unique tramway. We will be reluctant to visit the Isle of Man again if the line is removed.
One thousand people have now told the Douglas Corporation that their decision to scrap our history is a disgrace. We are force-feeding them the truth that tourists will simply stop coming if they destroy this heritage.

Horse trams running the full length of the Promenade is a unique feature of Douglas and the Isle of Man. Operation stopping short of the sea terminal (and effectively the steam railway station) robs the tramway of one of its "real" public transport roles.

I love the horse tramway and have been to IOM 3 times now from Australia and have travelled on it each time, progress isn't always a good thing and the Horse Tramway always brings a smile as you walk up the promenade please reconsider this hasty decision

Please retain the horse trams - I have been visiting the Island for 70 years and they are part of its attraction for visitors, along with the MER and the steam railway - along with the preserved Corporation and Road Services buses.

Absolutely appalled that something as iconic as the horse trams are to be axed. I know my late Manx Mum would be very upset , being Douglas born and bred. Let's hope that a solution can be found to keep them running . The island won't be the same without them.

No Tramway had been abandoned in its entirety since 1962. This one has ran for 139 years and is the oldest surviving Tramway still using its original motive power in the world!
Closing it would be a massive callous act of historical vandalism

Does Douglas have a Death Wish? What is Douglas known for across the World? The Horse Trams! Without them it is has no special selling point and is just another rather run down seaside town which is expensive to get to and expensive to stay in.

I object to closure and how it currently is as it is more useful as a link between the ferry terminal and the electric tramway for tourists and especially those with a disability
