Name: Jazz Trombly on Nov 7, 2012Comments: I've been using MSN since I was 13 and as weird as it sounds it holds many fond memories for me. And as someone who doesn't use mobile devices and isn't interested in voice/video chat, Skype, with its bare minimum of customization (no custom fonts, emoticons, or themes?), is utterly useless to me. Unless Skype's IM is vastly improved or has MSN's features added to it, this would be a very bad decision.Flag

Name: Tristin on Nov 7, 2012Comments: I'm going to be really honest here, a lot of my friends have stopped using WLM not in favor of Skype, or any other program, but because of the most recent 2011 upgrade and the bullshit that has come along with it and Microsoft's attitude. (AKA, long list of reasons Microsoft is pushing us away, the 2012 edition.) As I have been told by Microsoft staff, this upgrade and the things that were taken away were (quite laughably) done to increase safety and try and draw user's attention back to the program with new social networking integration features. One thing that turned most of my friends away from WLM was the display name removal. (Which also made me personally very uncomfortable.) I asked about this during the beta testing for the newest version and the response I received, essentially, was that it was a safety measure. Now maybe I just don't understand internet safety, but somehow, being forced to use the real name attached to your email account as the display name for instant messaging just doesn't seem "safe" to me. The option given instead, was that you should change the name ON your email account, which is just asinine. I use my email for work and school related things and have to have my legal name on it, but (as many people do) speak with people on the messenger client who just don't need to know my legal name. Another feature that has driven people to Skype has been the webcam. The options for webcam usage on WLM have been restricted more and more over the years to the point where it's not even worth using. Even with these issues, many people chose not to upgrade and have stuck with the 2009 client which has served us all dutifully. (I'm still using it.) Then Microsoft struck again by trying to force people to upgrade if they had an operating system capable of using the newest version. This left many of my friends with no other choice than to stop using WLM altogether and now the only means I have of communicating is WITH Skype, which, for Microsoft's reference, I hate to pieces. -----------I propose here a *revolutionary* idea that Microsoft should actually collect info on how people USE their messaging client and take feedback on how their users want it improved. Then actually IMPROVE the client instead of doing what they think will make it more popular.-----------Flag

Name: Jennifer Young on Nov 7, 2012Comments: Don't get rid of windows live! It's my main source for keeping contact with my friends. Skype is okay, but I prefer MSN more. It's much more text based user friendly AND you can video/voice chat too if you want! I also love the cool gifs/emoticons you can send your friends, Skype doesn't have that! If you guys would stop forcing us to update MSN, you would have a lot more users. The ones that quit would come back in a heartbeat.Flag

Name: DesertGod on Nov 7, 2012Comments: MSN has been really useful during all these years. I've been on MSN longer than I remember. None other messengers will ever replace MSN. If you close it you might lost a lot of users. This is the only way I can talk to my friends and I deny to use another messenger that isn't MSN. Thanks for reading.Flag
