Comments: Please do not rezone Lefferts Place. I personally live next door to the lot that would be the proposed property site, and I am very concerned. This massive structure that is being proposed would be directly next door to me, and will affect the quality of life for me and my family. My house is also one of the oldest homes on the block. I am afraid of what the construction alone, along with the digging that will have to be done will do to the foundation of my home. Lefferts Place is only 3 blocks long, is already a 2 way street, and just cannot take such a massive project. I urge you to get involved, and help preserve Lefferts Place.

Comments: This out of context development is exactly what the 2007 re-zoning was intended to prevent. Any politician who supported that effort, but favors this new development will be expoised as a complete hypocrite.

Comments: Lefferts Place is part of the Clinton Hill South Historic District and is primarily comprised of low rise townhouses and villas dating back to the mid 19th Century. The proposed development calls for the construction of a six to eight story building (presumably much higher with the inclusion of affordable housing) that would be north of 100,000 square feet and consist of approximately 100 apartment units. The proposed building would tower over the adjacent Elwell House as well as all neighboring low-rise brownstones, limestones and villas. The rezoning of Lefferts Place from R6B to R7A will have a devastating impact on the community’s efforts to protect the architectural history of Lefferts Place and establish a dangerous precedent for the rest of Fort Greene – Clinton Hill.

Comments: We have only to look to Williamsburg to see the irrevocable damage that out-of-context building can do to beautiful historic neighborhoods. Lefferts Place should have been given landmark protection years ago as part of the Clinton Hill historic district. Unfortunately our elected officials lack the courage to stand up to real estate interests.

Comments: Neighborhoods are the heart of our city. Any changes to neighborhoods should be discussed with, and supported by the neighborhoods in which they will be implemented. We must work together to make our city strong.
