Ever since the passage of the Children's Internet Protection Act in 2000, critical federal funding for public libraries has hinged upon whether or not they filter their internet connections to block out access to objectionable imagery.

Although the protection of children online is indeed a noble goal, the process of filtering is has not kept pace with the evolution and incredible growth of the internet since the year 2000. As a result, inaccurate and overzealous internet filtering has hindered the capabilities of children and adults alike to learn and work through the use of a library connection.

This petition aims to register your desire to urge congressional representatives to untie critical library funding from the censorship of the internet. By amending or abolishing CIPA, individual libraries could gain the freedom to implement internet use policies that focus more on education on internet safety & proper usage, rather than being forced to use crude software that often limits access to crucial information for developing minds.

In addition to participating in this petition, I urge you to contact your representative directly. This is an issue that can be resolved only through increased awareness of filtering and registering our desire for legislative change

You can find who your congressional representative is as well as their contact information via this link: http://www.house.gov/representatives/find/

Thank you for fighting for an uncensored internet for all!
