We have recieved over 300 declarations of interest in the idea of a fenced of area with openly provides a specific area for dog owners to allow their pets to exercise 'off leash'. Unfortunatly, while dogs are allowed to freely walk in public, you are playing russian roulette with their well being. While there is a time and a place for a walk around the many locations in leicester, the benefits of a dog park simply give the owners another option - - Dogs burn off most of their energy when playing with other dogs. - A fenced off area would negate the off leash worries of traffic, loosing site of dog, interacting with other dogs which are on leash for a reason (i.e. agression). - Allow elderly and others who aren't able to have a dog for their own reasons the opportunity to interact with them. - Reduces problem behaviour like barking and hyper activity. - Increase knowledge and experience among dog owners. - Promotes responsible dog and pet ownership. - Opportunity for work for young people (maintenence and promotion of park). - Opportunity for small local businesses (trainers, kennels, day care) to promote themselves. - Site for dog charities to freely socialise and exercise their animals. This is only meant as another option to walking your dog in public. We fully support public dog walking, and only support this as another option. The area will be open to dog owners and others alike. The park will be sponsored by local business and private funding. The only clincher is the availability of land from the council. Regards, DoggyPlayDate.co.uk
