Queen Elizabeth Country Park

A place of enjoyment for so many local people, weather you are walking, cycling and having a BBQ

We would like your opinion of the following issues:

  • Dog Mess and the safe disposal of it
  • Dangerous waste left behind after BBQ's

Dog poo, it's not a nice subject but someone need to talk about it. Safe disposal of dog mess from the park is important for everyone. As users of the park, we don't like seeing it or bags of it deposited around the paths. I know the cry "Take it home with you" and lots of us do, but the evidence is there to be seen by everyone.

There are only 6 bins in the whole of the park and these are for general rubbish. Dog poo is considered a hazardous waste and needs to be handle appropriately. Currently wardens are not allowed the deal with the disposal from special dog waste bins (an external contractor would need to be engaged). However wardens are permitted to handle the general rubbish bins which, due to a lack of any other facility, contain dog poo.

For the sake of the park, the people that use it, the children that play in it, the mountain bikers and dog walkers, can we please have designated bins for the disposal of dog poo.

BBQ waste. I can't think of a better way to spend a sunny afternoon/evening than around a BBQ with friends and family. The facilities in QE park offer the opportunity to get out and enjoy the outdoors. But waste left behind is not only unsightly it can also be fatal to animals, both domestic and wild. Again I hear the same cry "Take it home with you" which is something we all fully support. However it doesn't always happen and there are no safe bins around the BBQ areas to dispose of rubbish. Those that are good enough to bag up their rubbish and leave the area clean and tidy, often still leave the bags behind, these are quickly ripped apart by wild animals and the rubbish spread across a wide area.

I know it's easy to gnaw on a chicken leg and then that medieval feeling as we throw it over your shoulder. However any cooked bones can be lethal to an animal, breaking into splinters and getting ingested.

Lets provide secure bins and appropriate signage by all the BBQ areas.

If you agree that these issues should be address, PLEASE sign this partition and help us engage with the appropriate people to discuss solutions.
