Norwegian Islamic Council must reject death penalty for homosexuals
iOslo.no prepared five questions for the president of the Norwegian Islamic Council. He does not want to comment on it, even if the case have been repeatedly covered by Norwegian media the past weeks. At Skeivt Forum that were held on the 7th November, it was also said that this have been up to debate in the Council at prior occasions.
Not rejecting the death penalty is legitimising violence and discrimination against homosexuals.
Norwegian Islamic Council being this vague and reluctant is serious as it aids to legitimise violence and discrimination against homosexuals - regardless of religion. We observe that the longer the Norwegian Islamic Council wait to reject the death penalty, the greater the damage that Muslims as a minority group in Norway will suffer, as the potential for conflict between immigrants and ethnic Norwegians aggregates. Homosexual Muslims in particular will be put under inhumane pressure.
Skeiv Verden is an extension of the Norwegian LHBT NGO LLH, and is anti-rasistic, including and non-discriminating, and encourage Norwegian Islamic Council to example, and recognise human rights.
We are more than happy to aide Norwegian Islamic Council, should they be in doubt over how to respond to the questions posted by iOslo.no:
Question 1: Does the Norwegian Islamic Council reject the death penalty for homosexuals - regardless where in the world this occurs and regardless of theological reasonings?
Correct answer: YES
Question 2: Does Norwegian Islamic Council mean that youths with a homosexual identity can be healed using medicaments or psychological counselling?
Correct answer: NO
Question 3: Does Norwegian Islamic Council recommend such therapy?
Correct answer: NO
Question 4: Should youths with a homosexual identity marry a person of the opposite sex?
Correct answer: NO
Question 5: May punishment or exclusion be legitimate if a homosexual person is unable or unwilling to change his or her sexual orientation?
Correct answer: NO
This petition will be delivered to the Norwegian Islamic Council, the Norwegian Government, and to Norwegian political parties.
