   Comments: The Chief has historically been treated with honor and respect by fans and alumni. The traditions and policies regarding when Chief can appear in a game, the dance he does, his authentic costume that was presented by an Native American chief, that only Eagle Scouts who earn a special award that involves more in-depth study of Native American culture, etc. all combine to honor and remember the spirit of the Illini. The flagship university of the state that was named for the Illini, a tribe that no longer exists, has an obligation to keep that spirit and memory alive. Chief Illiniwek has done that in the past, and his spirit still lives in the hearts of generations of alumni. There is no suitable substitute. Thank you, Amy Lash Esau

    Comments: Chief Illiniwek is the mascot of the University of Illinois, any attempt to change that will more than likely not be good for the University. People need to get over the PC crap and stand up for the tradition that is the University of Illinois and that tradition is Chief Illiniwek.

    Comments: Whatever mascot is chosen will not unify the university. It's more divisive to have a mascot at this point than just not having one at all. If it's not the Chief, it's no one for the majority of people, especially for the donors and alumni.
