Name: Heather Morris on Jan 10, 2013Comments: The Chief is a symbol of tradition and it is positive. There are people of Indian heritage that did like the Indian and did not find it offensive. It is sad to think that tradition can be so easily broken but can stand for other teams who did not have to get rid of the mascot. The midwest was built by Indians and by goodness it is actually showing Pride to the Indians. I grew up in Pawnee, IL where they are still the Pawnee Indians as they lived there. There should be no other mascot allowed at U of I and they should bring the Chief back...he showed Pride!!!! What are we going to a nation that lets have a mascot for all racial groups - please this was ridiculous to begin with as the college loved the money it brought forth. We all want the Chief and anything less is unacceptable and probably will not sell!!Flag
