I was looking at the total just now and it is wild how many of you feel the same way about the tradition we lost. If we can get this list to look heavy before the committee has their session then they really have to pay attention to our side of the argument.

I can see the counter creeping up toward one hundred and it really makes me think about how many of us still feel the same way about our traditions despite what the administration says. If you have a friend who went to school with us or is currently on campus you should probably send them the link right now because we really need to show them that this is not just some small group of people shouting into the wind.

Getting rid of the Chief was a monument to foolish decision-making driven by a few ignorant loudmouths. No mascot will ever replace the Chief.
I went to U of I in the 1980's. I chose the school over ones that many consider to be more "prestigious" and was proud to do so. It's a pathetic shame that the once-great U of I has let itself turn into a miserable copy-cat of those mealy-mouhed, politically correct and intolerant "presitgious" institutions in California and the northeast... the ones I elected not to attend for the very same reason. Midswesterners are supposed to be more reasonable than those on the coasts - not try to emulate them and their faults.
As an alumnus (MS '57) I am sick of the political correctness mentality at the U of I and long for the day UI regains the respect it once had. If you need a model, look to Hillsdale College.
Our entire family(alumni and otherwise) has always had the utmost respect for Chief Illiniwek and want to see the honorable tradition continued for future generations. The Chief is not a joke or even a mascot in the typical sense, but a revered symbol of a mighty and respected people group. Those opposed need to get over all this political correctness, be reasonable, and do the right thing by bringing back the Chief!
I was there in the 80's when they tried a mascot - it was booed off the basketball court. Bring back the Chief. Take a real look at the option presented by the Peoria Tribe.
Chief or nothing!
KEEEP THE CHIEF. THIS IS CLEVELAND. HE'S Happy, ALWAYS SMILING. THE C JUST DOESN'T RIGHT. WE'RE NOT IN CHICAGO, CINCINNATI ,COLUMBUS. .. KEEP THE CHIEF. WAHOO

Any mascot chosen to replace Chief Illiniwek (the once and always proud symbol of Illinois athletics) will be a tribute to political correctness ("Always political, seldom correct").
